GOOD READS
A new habit I want to incorporate for this new year is to read a minimum of two books per month. No, not reading books that are required for academic purposes, but reading for one's enjoyment. If you are an avid reader who seeks to be inspired in creating a lifestyle you want to attain, then I recommend reading The Secret and #GIRLBOSS. They are the same, but different. Both books incorporate advices on improving every aspect of life from relationships to finances, but they have contrasting execution. Without further ado, let us delve into the books...
Ever since I was little, I've had the imaginative spirit to act as though I was the role I played. For example, if I baked pastries for a friend's birthday, I pretended I was a baker who owned my own bakery. If I dropped off my little brother to school, I pretended I was an Uber driver. Pretending to play these roles not only made the task more fun, but it was the encouraging force to give it my all to all that I did. Ultimately, I wanted my "customers" to be happy with the service I provided. Why did I allude to these stories? Little did I know that this behavior had a name. The Secret is about the Law of Attraction. One concept of the Law of Attraction emphasizes to "act as if." Act as if the person you want to be or the thing that you want already exists. If you are a nursing student, act as if you are already a nurse. If you are exercising at a gym, act as if you are a professional athlete. By imagining to play these roles, you adopt the mindset and habits of those roles. Practically, you are what you have always wanted to become. The Law of Attraction also emphasizes on energies, vibrations, and attractions. In short, it is comprised of three rules; to ask, to believe, and to receive. When you ask for something tangible or non tangible, you are sending that intent, frequency, or energy out to the Universe. By believing that your request will be made, you will act upon that thought. In turn, you will receive what you have asked for.
#GIRLBOSS on the other hand, is a fast read sprinkled with humor. Sophia Amoruso begins with a description of her early life filled with bizarre experiences. But it was those moments that helped her create Nasty Gal, the fastest growing retailer. What I admired most about this book is that Sophia emphasizes that we have an entrepreneurial spirit within us all. She gives honest advice and shares mistakes that are relatable outside the business aspect. She advocates for others to be the best that they can be and to do the best they can do in every area of their life. Despite having a small eBay shop evolve into a giant corporation and being in Forbes 30 under 30, she still remains humble. #GIRLBOSS is not just a book, but a movement to encourage everyone to be confident in the pursuit of their dreams.
I enjoyed both books respectively on their own and I hope you have the chance to read them as well! Below are just a few of my favorite quotes.
The Secret
+ We are the creators and authors of this life and our story.
+ Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors for you where there were walls.
+ Your purpose is what you say it is. Your mission is the mission you give yourself.
#GIRLBOSS
+ A #GIRLBOSS is someone who's in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.
+ When your goal is to gain experience, perspective, and knowledge, failure is no longer a possibility.
+ When you treat your possessions as emblems of your hard work, they inherit a meaning that transcends the objects themselves.
Thank you for stopping by, until next time!
With Love,
